Malaysia defends ‘hideous’ tourism trademark notwithstanding criticism

A Malaysia Tourism trademark featuring a grinning orangutan and a turtle in sunglasses has been branded “hideous”, and sparked calls for it to be ditched.

The new logo, with a tagline “Travel. Enjoy. Respect”, has come underneath glow on amicable media with people criticising a disproportionate rise sizes and retro-looking illustrations.

But according to a tourism minister, a multicolored trademark is here to stay.

Nazri Aziz pronounced a trademark was designed by a ministry’s in-house group and that he devoted their designs, adding that critique “is normal”.

“I can’t be putting a critical logo. This is tourism and it’s ostensible to be fun,” he told news opening a New Straits Times.

But some Malaysians were not amused.

Almost 8,000 people have sealed an online petition job for it to be dropped by a tourism board.

Mr Nazri denounced a trademark during a transport forum in Thailand final Friday.
