Malaysia Seized 330 Exotic Tortoises From Madagascar

(KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia) — Malaysian authorities pronounced Monday that they have seized 330 outlandish tortoises from Madagascar value 1.2 million ringgit ($276,721), in a latest heist of bootleg wildlife and animal tools being smuggled into a country.

Deputy etiquette executive Abdull Wahid Sulong pronounced that 325 Indian Star tortoises and 5 Ploughshare tortoises were packaged into 5 boxes and labeled as stones. He pronounced a live tortoises, customarily kept as pets, arrived around Etihad Airways from Antanaviro Airport in Madagascar on Sunday.

Customs officials found a boxes during a Kuala Lumpur airfield load room on a same day formed on a tip, Abdull Wahid said.

The import of outlandish tortoises requires a special assent from Malaysia’s Wildlife Department. No arrests were done and a box is still underneath investigation, Abdull Wahid said.
