“I was removing into a automobile during a time of a quake, and it felt like a heavy-duty lorry rumbling past,” proprietor Liu Yanrong tells Xinhua.

The China Earthquake Networks Center reported that a trembler had a magnitude of 7.0, while a U.S. Geological Survey gave it a magnitude of 6.5.

Don Blakeman, a geophysicist with USGS, tells NPR that it is standard for opposite magnitudes to be reported since seismologists can use varying formulas to calculate them.

Earthquakes are not odd in Sichuan province. In 2008, a harmful 7.9 bulk quake left some 90,000 people passed or missing.

Of Tuesday’s quake, Anthony says state media reported that “the upheaval struck during a opening about a 2008 disaster, murdering one artist. The news says that during first, some assembly members suspicion a jolt was only partial of a show.”

“It is a really alpine segment in southwest China, Tibet and Nepal,” Blakeman said, “and roughly all of these earthquakes are associated to image tectonics and these plates relocating around.”
